SILCHAR: Employees of the two defunct paper mills in Assam expressed hope that the next state government will consider the issue of revival of the mills on a priority basis.
The Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) of Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills made an appeal for revival of the mills saying that the next government in the state should take necessary steps to restart the industries and remit all the dues of their employees.
JACRU president Manabendra Chakraborty on Saturday said that both the BJP-led alliance and the Congress’ mahajot had promised during their campaigning that the paper mills would be revived if they win the assembly election and form the next government.

In a setback to the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, BJP candidate Samadhan Autade on Sunday won the by-election to Pandharpur-Mangalvedha Assembly seat in Solapur district by defeating his nearest NCP rival by a margin of over 3,700 votes, officials said.
Autade defeated Bhagirath Bhalke, son of late NCP MLA Bharat Bhalke, who was fielded by the MVA.
NCP shares power with Shiv Sena and Congress in the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.
"Congratulations to Mamata ji for her heroic and courageous fight to uphold Indian democracy and a resounding victory defying all odds. This historic victory is reassuring for the country. Gratitude to the wisdom of Bengal voters," he said on Twitter.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has wrested the Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency with its candidate Nomula Bhagat winning the by-election with a comfortable majority of over 18,000 votes.
